The debate rages on when comparing electronic drums and acoustic drums. Actually, there is no debate because acoustic drums will never be replaced. You can simulate the sound of an acoustic kit using electronic drums, but replacing the depth of tone and resonance of the various woods that drum sets are made from. It’s almost impossible to replicate the rich sounds of maple or bubinga, even though good electronic kits can come close. However, unless you own an in-home studio or sound proofed room, electronic drums provides the best late night or nap-time playing option. Electronics also allow for many hundreds of different sounds, canned and uniquely custom that are available at the touch of a button. Conclusion: acoustic drums can’t be replaced, but electronics have an important place, too!
Cymbals are a different story, It’s virtually impossible to replace them electronically.
